Cancer Rehabilitation

What Is Cancer Rehabilitation?

Many cancer patients going through treatment believe that nothing can be done for the side effects they are experiencing. At Bon Secours Physical Therapy, our Cancer Rehab program can help minimize these debilitating side effects which significantly impact patients’ daily lives.

Side effects of chemotherapy and other cancer treatments include:

  • Pain
  • Fatigue and weakness
  • Joint stiffness
  • Swelling
  • Loss of balance
  • Difficulty with walking
  • Numbness in feet or hands
  • Scar tissue restriction
  • Bowel and bladder dysfunction.

It is known that exercise can decrease many of the side effects encountered by patients with cancer, but often patients are confused as to what is safe and appropriate. Bon Secours Physical Therapy employs experienced therapists with specialized training in the field of oncology, which allows for safe, individualized treatment programs designed to meet the challenges cancer patients face.

Our cancer rehabilitation therapists emphasize a team approach, working closely with oncology providers and coordinating our interventions around chemotherapy cycles, radiation treatment and surgeries. We use the most current scientific and clinical evidence to design each patient’s treatment plan. Patients that enter our cancer rehab program will get the help they need both during and beyond cancer treatments.
